[Workshop] Upcycling Old Clothes to Coasters by SSG

T-shirts are a quintessential clothing item that can be found in everybody’s closet. But as times goes by, some T-shirts go out of style while others grow worn and discoloured. These disused T-shirts are then discarded, becoming one of the top contributors of textile waste.

In the workshop, participants will use upcycling techniques to transform the T-shirts into a new product – a coaster mat that is perfect for mugs, pans or even used as decorative placemats for almost anything. The hand-made coaster mat makes for a beautiful, thoughtful and sustainable gift, fit for a special occasion or to show appreciation to a loved one.

Through the hands-on process of upcycling and eco-education, participants will not only bring home a product that they created themselves, but also be inspired to rethink the possibilities of the waste that they throw away.

Materials required:

1. Clean old cotton fabric

2. Pen

3. Scissors

4. White glue / hot glue

5. Clean and dry paper carton (at least 5cm x 5cm)
